Whitewall Tire Paint Application How-To

I finally found time to paint my tires with the whitewall tire paint mentioned earlier. I was pretty impressed with the results.

Materials needed:
1 can tire paint by Örn Sigurðsson
Flathead screwdriver (to open the can)
Goo Gone (for cleaning tires)
Paintbrush - I used a 1.5" from my hardware store
Stirring stick
Turpentine - for cleanup

I started by taking off the tires and spraying them down with my garden hose, then I dryed them with a lint free cloth and cleaned the brake dust and grime using the goo gone.

I applied one even coat to each side, setting a bowl inside the tire to elevate the side that was already painted, so it could dry horizontally rather than taking the risk of having it dry vertical and drip. Remember to wait 24 hours inbetween coats and before riding. It may also help to use some kind of spray tire protectant like armor all or black magic.

I painted 2 coats, but there was some browning of the paint as mentioned by Orn. Adding a couple more coats should cover up this problem and will make your nice scoot look that much classier.

I suggest throwing the brush away and using a new one for the time inbetween coats. The paint is an oil/rubbery base, so water will do nothing to it and it will leave you with a nasty mess. If you must keep your brush though, use turpentine to clean it.

I've read good things about this product. But how does it hold up for a daily driver? Cracking? Discoloration? BTW, putting wide whitewalls on an 80s Vespa P-range looks really stupid.

this paint is not as good as i thought i bought 4 cans of it for my motorcycles and have used 3 cans already
i have had to do it over and over again because the brown just keeps bleeding through the paint
came to an idea of how about sealing the tyre first with diluted pava glue
and that worked for 2 months next hot day the dam brown was back
i applied 5 coats just to keep covering the bleed but it just kept on haunting me
so eventually i stripped it all off
i did all the things recomended cleaning bleaching etc
nothing worked
so now i have black tyres again
and the search continues

Hi guys. just saw the pics and posting on here regarding the whitewalls on your vespa. I too have paint that will help you out. It has a primer that stops any brown from bleeding through and of course the a topcoat. Not only that i have othe colours that you can also apply to your side walls to help customise your bikes even more. These are best applied with a machine that rotates the tires that are left on your bike. The paint is applied by a small roller head while the tire rotates. looks trick as. don't have any current pics but have a couple of Harleys that i will try to load or if you want to send me your email links i'll send them up..these are very popular where i am.
